Equity Practices in ECE Session 2

Justice & Action Development as Anti-Bias Goals

The USA grows racially and ethnically diverse each year. The past two decades have seen a number of research reports, articles, and journals discussing the importance of discussing race with children. The research confirms early is best when it comes to discuss race, identity, and difference with young children. The adults who care and work with young children need to raise awareness, increase information, and build practical ways of implementing anti-bias and anti-racist curriculum and program experiences. This training will focus on utilizing justice and action development in childcare as anti-bias goals.

In this training, participants will:

  • Distinguish between colorblindness and implicit-bias based thinking towards young children and families
  • Using the anti-bias goals to link justice development and action to California Foundations & Frameworks, CA ECE Competencies, Rating Scales, & NAEYC Standards
  • Identify anti-bias goals of justice and action during planning and interactions
  • Use reflective practices to plan appropriate teaching and learning goals

This is session 2 of 2. It is not mandatory to attend both sessions as each session will focus on identifying anti-bias goals through different developmental categories. Nevertheless, attending both sessions is strongly encouraged.  For session 1 click here: Equity Practices in ECE Session 1: Identity & Diversity Development as Anti-Bias Goals
